Macon’s First Creative Crosswalks
On Saturday, August 31, four artists took their winning designs to the streets for Macon's first Creative Crosswalks! They painted the crosswalks at the intersections of Columbus Street, Appleton Avenue, and Ross Street. The aim of this event was to bring more safety and personality into Macon as drivers will be more likely to slow down at these crosswalks.
Lekisha Young painted the sunrise crosswalk titled “Walk Through the Storm.” Sydnee Robertson painted the piano keys crosswalk titled “Macon a Beat.” Erin Hawkins painted the Macon map crosswalk titled “Abstract Macon.” Omar Abu Staiti painted the colorful, swirl design crosswalk titled “Grace.”
While the artists were up as early as 7AM, the public was invited to enjoy the show with a nice, cold treat with the Creative Crosswalks Popsicle Party later that afternoon.
The day was long and hot, but completely worth it! All four final projects came out magnificently, and the paint will last for 5 years, allowing for maximum advocacy and beauty. This was Macon’s first Creative Crosswalks event, and it definitely was a success.
