Macon’s First Green Bike Lanes

Bike Walk Macon and Better Blocked partnered together to produce Macon’s first green bike lanes! And, of course, you can see them right outside the Bike Walk Macon office. The lanes in front of the office were already pretty wide and had ample room for a bike lane. It looks great and definitely adds more personality and safety to the Macon community.

But what makes a green bike lane any different from the regular white-striped ones we’ve come to know? The National Association of City Transportation Officials, or NACTO, outlines just why they function better. NACTO says the green bike lane “increases the visibility of the facility, identifies potential areas of conflict, and reinforces priority to bicyclists.”

Other important benefits include making bicyclists feeling more comfortable and seen, and increasing yields from drivers. You can read more about the regulations and benefits of green bike lanes on NACTO’s website here!

We hope to see Macon pick up on the trend that Bike Walk Macon and Better Block have started. We want to see bicyclists become more comfortable and confident on the roads they were also made for them!
