Smart Cycling Class - Hosted with Georgia Bikes

Learn to be a safe cyclist through this Smart Cycling Class. The course will explore bicycle mechanics, hazard avoidance maneuvers, and how to confidently ride with traffic and share the road with motorists. The Smart Cycling course is a prerequisite to becoming a League Certified Instructor (LCI).

The class will be held in Carolyn Crayton Park in downtown Macon (specifically the parking lot of the Senior Center - 132 Willie Smokie Glover Dr, Macon, GA 31201) on Saturday, June 15, from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM.

All participants must bring their own bikes and helmets. Helmets are required. You must be 18 years or older to take this class.

This class is led by League Cycling Instructors from Georgia Bikes and Bike Walk Macon.

Participants should complete the online portion of the class before attending the on-bike drills session. Additional information will be provided after registration. Take the Smart Cycling online lesson here: https://learn.bikeleague.org/p/smartcycling

Please be sure to bring:

  • Your bike and helmet

  • Water, sunscreen, snacks

Online topics include:

  • Bicycle basics, using gears, and bicycle maintenance

  • Traffic rules and safety

  • Rural, group, and night riding

The on-bike session covers the following topics:

  • Essential bike handling skills

  • Emergency maneuvers

  • Cycling in traffic

  • Lane and intersection safety
