Thanks for Reimagining Boulevard and Napier AVE. with us!

We brought Open Streets Macon to the neighborhoods again! This year, we continued our COVID-19 format and activated two smaller, residential routes in the place of one, miles-long route. These routes were selected through a nomination process and aimed at engaging the immediate neighborhood communities located on and around the following routes:

  • Sunday, September 12th, Boulevard (from Glenridge Dr. to Clinton Rd.)

  • Sunday, October 24th, Napier Ave. (from Linden Ave. to Pio Nono Ave.)

A special thank you to the North Highlands and Napier Heights neighborhoods for welcoming us and making this year's program a community-led success!

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!

Hundreds of people joined us for Open Streets Macon this fall. Whether you walked, played, danced, biked, chalked, skated, or laughed with us, we thank you for enjoying our streets in a healthier, more creative way!

Would you like to see Open Streets Macon happen more often? In more Macon neighborhoods? Share your feedback with us by completing the brief online survey.

ROUTE RECAP

Boulevard | September 12th

Open Streets 2021 kicked off at Boulevard. 800 people joined us with a total of 19 activity partners. We will be installing speed cushions along Boulevard in the next few months (thank you North Highlands Neighborhood Association!) to improve safety for pedestrians.

Napier Ave. | October 24th

Our second neighborhood activation at Napier Ave. had approximately 550 people and 26 activity partners. We partnered with Central High School’s fine arts teacher Jenesa White to paint a sensory sidewalk pathway and colorful crosswalks along Napier Ave. (thank you to Andrea Cooke for sharing this idea with us!). Be sure to walk through Central High and hop, skip, and jump along the sidewalk!

WHAT MAKES OPEN STREETS MAGICAL

DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS

Open Streets relies on volunteers to complete traffic calming projects, distribute surveys, assist activity partners, and more. We would not have been able to pull this off without them. We want to give a special thanks to Mercer University students for helping with our street clean-ups at both routes!

ACTIVITY PARTNERS

Activity Partners are local businesses or organizations that provide programming during every Open Streets activation. They are the HIGHLIGHT of Open Streets Macon, from yoga to musical performances, their creativity and support is what makes this program so fun and impactful! We appreciate all of the activity partners who joined us this year, new and old, and hope to see you again next year!
