Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Awards Safety Grant to Bike Walk Macon

Bike Walk Macon is pleased to announce it has received a $55,156.29 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS).

The grant will help finance efforts to develop and execute educational programs that expand and promote bicycle and pedestrian safety to reduce the number of pedestrian and bicycle fatalities, injuries, and crash rates in Macon-Bibb County, Georgia.

“The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and our partners continue to implement programs designed to save lives and promote safe driving behaviors,” Allen Poole, Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety said. “We ask everyone to help our state and nation reach the attainable goal of zero traffic deaths by driving safe speeds, always wearing a seat belt, keeping the focus on the road and not the phone, and never operating a vehicle under the influence of any substance that impairs your ability to drive.”

"Thanks to continued support from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, Bike Walk Macon is committed to providing vital bicycle and pedestrian safety education to adults, youth, and law enforcement in Macon-Bibb County through classes, resources, and programming," shares Rachel Umana, Executive Director of Bike Walk Macon. "Together, we are making significant strides towards enhancing safety, promoting awareness, and creating a community where all residents can enjoy the benefits of multimodal transportation with confidence."

The grant year for this award will be October 1, 2023 to September 30, 2024.
