Complete Streets Policy passes unanimously!
The Complete Streets Policy ordinance was unanimously passed by the Macon-Bibb County Commission on Tuesday, June 22nd!
WHAT ARE COMPLETE STREETS? Complete Streets are designed and operated to enable safe access for all users. Pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and public transportation users of all ages and abilities are able to safely move along and across a complete street.
WHAT IS A COMPLETE STREETS POLICY? Complete Streets Policies direct transportation planners and engineers to consistently design with all users in mind including drivers, public transportation vehicles and riders, pedestrians, and bicyclists as well as older people, children, and people with disabilities.
This is a massive step forward for creating a comprehensive, connected, and equitable transportation network over time that is designed, implemented, operated, and maintained for people of all ages, races, ethnicities, incomes, and abilities! We are thrilled to see that Macon-Bibb County is recognizing the importance of planning, designing, and installing safe infrastructure for all modes of transportation.
Thank you to Commissioner Lucas and Mayor Miller for sponsoring this ordinance. We’d also like to thank AARP Georgia, Georgia Bikes, the MBC Pedestrian Safety Review Board, MBC Engineering Department, and OneMacon for their support. We look forward to continuing to work with Macon-Bibb County to implement this policy and improve multi-modal options and connectivity across our city!
